Cookie Policy

TL;DR

We only use essential cookies required for the service to work. No tracking. No analytics. No advertising. No third-party cookies. That's why you don't see a cookie banner on our site.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device. They serve various purposes, from remembering your login status to tracking your behavior across the web.

At Secury.io, we believe in minimal data collection. We only use cookies that are strictly necessary for the service to function - nothing more.

2. Our Privacy-First Approach

Unlike most websites, Secury.io does not use:

Analytics Cookies

No Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar tracking

Advertising Cookies

No ad networks, no retargeting, no personalized ads

Third-Party Cookies

No Facebook Pixel, no social media trackers, no external scripts that set cookies

Cross-Site Tracking

We don't track you across other websites or build advertising profiles

3. What We Actually Use

We use only strictly necessary technologies required for Secury.io to function:

NamePurposeDurationType
auth_tokenKeeps you logged in securelySession / 7 daysHttpOnly Cookie
secury_userStores your account info locallyUntil logoutlocalStorage
themeRemembers dark/light mode preferencePersistentlocalStorage
__cf_bmCloudflare bot protection30 minutesCookie (Cloudflare)

All of these are essential - the service cannot work without them. Under GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive, essential cookies do not require consent, which is why we don't show a cookie consent banner.

4. Referral Program Tracking

Our referral program does not use tracking cookies. Here's how it works:

  • Referral links use URL parameters (e.g., /register?ref=CODE)
  • The referral code is sent directly to our server during registration
  • Attribution is stored in our database, not in your browser
  • No cookies are set for referral tracking

This approach respects your privacy while still allowing us to reward users who refer their friends.

5. Why No Cookie Banner?

You may have noticed we don't show a cookie consent popup. This is intentional and legal:

  • GDPR and the ePrivacy Directive only require consent for non-essential cookies
  • We only use essential cookies that are strictly necessary for the service
  • Showing a consent banner for essential-only cookies would be misleading
  • We believe in honest, transparent communication - not dark patterns

Our philosophy: If we don't need to track you, we don't. Most cookie banners exist because companies want to track you and are legally required to ask permission. We simply chose not to track you in the first place.

6. Managing Cookies

Even though we only use essential cookies, you always have control:

  • Browser settings: You can configure your browser to block or delete cookies
  • Logout: Logging out clears your authentication cookies
  • Clear storage: You can clear localStorage through your browser's developer tools

Note: Blocking essential cookies may prevent some features from working properly.

7. Third-Party Services

We use a few third-party services that may set their own cookies:

These services are essential for security and payments. They do not track you for advertising purposes.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we ever change our approach to cookies (which we don't plan to), we will update this policy and notify users appropriately. Our commitment to privacy-first practices is fundamental to Secury.io.
